Born and raised in Nelspruit, South Africa, Murray Lubbe developed a passion for music from an early age. He started to play the piano and sing at age seven and actively participated in various singing competitions throughout his childhood. His early enthusiasm soon expanded into the technical and creative side of music, leading him to establish his first home recording studio in 2000 during his first year of high school. This initial venture laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong career in both music production and live concert audio & technology.
After matriculating in 2004, he took a significant step forward by opening a professional recording studio in Nelspruit in 2005. Over the next three years, he recorded and produced music for school concerts, local bands, and choirs, steadily gaining recognition beyond his local community. Simultaneously, he co-founded an event technology and production management company alongside Johan Ferreira, initially providing sound and lighting solutions for school productions which gradually grew to service 25 schools nationally for the next few years. As both the studio and event services grew, his career necessitated a move to Gauteng by the end of 2007.
Relocating to Pretoria marked the official launch of his career as a producer in the professional music industry focusing on the Afrikaans genre. Since then, he has produced and mixed over 1,100 songs, collaborating with many of the most recognized names and record labels in South Africa. His primary clients over the past 17 years include Coleske Artists (a division of Warner Group), Select Music (a division of Sony Music Entertainment Africa), Universal Music South Africa, Inhoudhuis Musiek, and numerous independent artists. His portfolio features releases with celebrated artists such as Kurt Darren, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Nianell, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Ray Dylan, Riana Nel, Bok van Blerk, Dewald Wasserfall, Theuns Jordaan, Laurika Rauch, Steve Hofmeyr, Juanita du Plessis, Brendan Peyper, Appel, Jo Black, Lianie May, Demi-Lee Moore, Robbie Wessels, and the Soweto Gospel Choir – Many of which received Diamond, Multi-Platinum or Platinum status on streaming platforms as well as a long list of number one’s on streaming charts!
Parallel to his creative music career, he expanded his influence in the live music production and entertainment arena. The event technology partnership he co-founded rapidly grew, securing its first major client, The main stage at Innibos Nasionale Kunstefees, in 2007 – an event the partnership continues to service annually. Within five years, its services had expanded to work on major annually held productions including Afrikaans Is Groot – Die Konsert, and all other “Groot” branded concerts, Krone, Lexus Pop Classics, and high-profile music television shows such as Noot vir Noot, Musiek Roulette, In Die Kollig, Ghoema Toekennings for KykNet, and Die Kontrak – singing competition. The company has also provided technical services for international acts and events, including Bethel Music, Kip Moore, Cape Town Country Festival, and the 100% Retro Brand.
Today, he continues to shape South Africa’s music industry through his work as a producer, mixing engineer, and post-production specialist for commercial music releases, while remaining at the forefront of live concert technology and sound design. His dual expertise in both studio production and live performance technology has positioned him as a key figure in the country’s evolving music and eventing landscape.
